Sinan Pasha Tomb Mosque Hidden Passage
A picturesque and usual route among the tourists of Istanbul goes from Hagia Sophia in Sultanahmed to the Grand Bazaar, which is about 10 blocks or 1000 meters. Walking along Av. Yeniceriler where the Tram service circulates, you can enjoy the cheerful and colorful facades of shops and restaurants.
After going through a small part of the immense Grand Bazaar, I decided to return the same way since night had fallen and the avenue is full of lights and activity. At that moment I recognize that I urgently need a public toilet or bathroom. I had already discovered that all the mosques have freely accessible toilets for the affordable price of 1 lira. Halfway through my journey was the Sinan Pasha Tomb Mosquewhen I approach entrance through a small passage that leads to the bathrooms at the back of the building. When leaving, I notice that the passage continues behind the mosque and instead of going back the same way I had entered, I went into the narrow corridor seeing where it led.
And there appears the surprise that they always keep for us the secret passages of this magical city and I go out to a lounge bar hookah full of local people enjoying their shishas. Mostly men, one or two at small tables and the occasional couple. The typical turkish artwork lounge with low lighting and multi colored decor.
Of course I did not dare to take a photo, not even to stop, I dared the room quickly towards an exit at the opposite end. This entire room surrounds the back of the mosque and is completely hidden from outsiders.
And one more time, magical Istanbul opens a window to its most intimate culture.
